Tainted Maple Leaf Meats Linked To 12 Deaths
Canadian officials have come out and confirmed that the number of deaths linked to the tainted deli meats from Maple Leaf Foods Inc. has increased to 12 across the country, with more expected.
At first, it was it was just 4 deaths that had been linked to the tainted beef, which caused many to become ill from listeriosis.
Later reports brought the news that the number of deaths now stands as 12, with more deaths expected.
All of the cases have been linked to tainted deli meat recalled by Maple Leaf Foods Inc. over the past weekend.
The deli meats have been traced to a plant in Toronto, which has since been shut down.
Maple Leaf Foods announced the recall of 220 different types of meats last weekend, expanding a previously issues recall.
The list of recalled meats with the latest Maple Leaf Meats Recall update as of August 25th 2008 can be downloaded here in PDF Format.
One thing you might want to check on is the Establishment with the ID 97B. This ID type logo can be found on all Maple Leaf Products and is similar to the one here on the right that shows the Est. ID of 611.
If the number indicated on the Est. ID is 97B, you may want to trow out the meat or return it to the store you purchased it from.
As of this posting there have been 26 confirmed cases and now 12 Deaths to this tainted meat outbreak. I can only imagine that these numbers are higher as most people are probably shrugging this off as a very bad flu. Hopefully they are lucky enough to fight it off or realize that they might be experiencing the listeriosis symptoms and seem medical help.
The thing that gets me about this whole thing is that I’m so surprised that certain places in my area have not been a source of something like this. Have worked in a restaurant that practices piss poor food handling procedures, it’s shocking that we all take for granted of the risks we takes when consuming prepared foods these days.
This is just my opinion, and you’re entitled to it.

well that is a great reason to live in canada is the fact that they actually report their health disasters unlike here in america where corporations cover up major problems
