A Buck for a Pay Phone?

Pay PhoneOK, I’m coming back from the mall and this guy approaches me ans starts off with the dribble of a story. “Hi there. I was wondering if you could spare a buck or two so I can make a phone call. I missed my ride and I need to get a hold of them.”

“Sorry dude. I don’t carry cash, it’s all Debit Card for me man.”

I really don’t carry cash hardly, but even if I did. He was up the creek. Why am I being a hard ass?

  1. He could call them collect if it was that important that he get a hold of them.
  2. It cost 25¢ to make a phone call. Not a buck or two.
  3. He was so conveniently hanging out in front of the Beer store and there weren’t any pay phone in the vicinity of the conversation.

Seriously. Why can’t somebody just ask for a beer? I would be more obliged to say, “Sure. here ya’ go.”

Then the guy has the nerve to say, “Thanks anyway. And Merry Christmas.” As to try and play the guilt trick on me.

I have problems of my own buddy.

People need to stop thinking that everybody is an idiot. If you need a helping hand, then just ask. Don’t make up some BS story that will end up insulting the persons intelligence. If you really need a drink, and begging for one is what you need to do, then go seek real help and get off the bottle. Nobody will support your habit.

This is my opinion, and you’re entitled to it.

Merry Christmas!
